Theft, Forgery, Car Conversion fN Z Press Association) ROTORUA, August 24. Car conversion had become a pestilence in New Zealand particularly amoung. young offenders, said Mr G. J Donne, S.M., when sentencing Francis Mowat Byrne, aged 18. of Christchurch, to a term of Borstal training. Byrne admitted charges of car conversion, theft, forgery and false pretences. Detective Senior Sergeant J. F. Stevenson said Byrne had stolen a cheque-book from an office at the Addington railway workshops, forged the signatures of the trustees upon whome the cheques were drawn, presented the cheques in Christchurch shops and obtained goods and cash amounting to £44.
