Australians Seek More Matches
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) SYDNEY, July 21. As the South African Rugby Board will not commit the 1965 Springboks to more than five matches in Australia, the final itinerary for the South African tour of Australia and New Zealand cannot be announced for some time yet.
The New Zealand section of the tour, with full travel and playing details, has already been approved, but it seems likely that the final details for the Australian section could yet be some time in completion. “The South Africans want
to play only five matches here, but we certainly want more matches than that." said the Australian union chairman, Mr C. W. Blunt, today. “The question of how many matches are played is a matter for continuing negotiation by correspondence.” With a full tour of South Africa last year and a “quickie” in the previous season, the feeling in Australian Rugbj- circles is that the Springboks should play at least eight, possibly’ io. ( matches, including a three- ! match test series, in Australia. The finances of the South African Board have been swollen considerably by the Australians in recent seasons and those at the head of the game in Australia feel that jit is time the South Africans reciprocated.
