SHEEP DOG SALE
110 Gns Top Price At Ashburton
A three-and-a-half-year huntaway and yard dog offered on account of Mr P. C. Clarkson, of Ashburton, realised top price of 110 guineas at the eighth annual sale of u-orking sheep dogs held by Pyne, Gould. Guinness, Ltd., at the Tinwald saleyards.
Widespread Interest was shown in tbe sale, and rates paid were higher than at last year’s sale. A large gallery followed the sale, and purchasers came from as far afield as the West Coast, Gore and Blenheim.
Tbe dogs were offered on account of clients from Kaikoura to Palmerston. Dogs and bitches with eye and breeding were keenly sought. There were 120 dogs offered, and 102 sales were made. Best prices were:—
Huntaway Section.— 110 guineas paid for Shep, a three-and-a half-year huntaway and yard dog (sold on account Mr P. C Clarkson, Ashburton): 65 guineas for Ross, a five-year handy and backing dog ,(Mr C. Thomas, Rangiora); 65 guineas for Jack, a two-year handy hunt away dog (Mr P. Parker. St. Andrews).
Heading And Lambing Dogs.— 89 guines for Blue, a 20-month heading dog (Mr G. A Waters, Albury); 86 guineas for Moss, a three-year heading dog (Mr W. F. Gerard. Windwhistle): 76 guineas for Ring, a five-and-a-half-year heading dog (Mr P Evans. Kaikoura): 75 guineas for Haig a six-year heading dog (Mr J. Crooks, Rangiora).
Tap price for a bitch was 72 guineas, paid for Tween, a three-year strong-eyed heading bitch offered by A. W. McKenzie, of Rosewill, Timaru.
