Officers Up To 20 (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 7. New Zealand officers seconded to the Malaysian armed forces were expected to be increased from four to between 15 and 20, said the Acting-Minister of External Affairs (Mr Hanan)'in Parliament today. Replying to a question by Mr W. H. Brown (Govt., Palmerston North), Mr Hanan said New Zealand’s defence aid to Malaysia was making satisfactory progress. The Government had had discussions with Malaysia on equipment New Zealand could provide and material was being prepared for shipment.
There had been no new request for military aid by Malaysia, said Mr Hanan in reply to a question by Mrs E. I. Tombleson (Govt., Gisborne). There were 1681 members of the New Zealand Armed forces serving in South-east Asia, said the Minister of Defence (Mr Eyre). He was replying to a question by Mr W. H. Brown (Govt., Palmerston North). Mr Eyre said the members comprised 745 Navy, 826 Army and 110 Air Force.
