GIFT OF CIGARS
Oddfellows Visit Seabee The injured American serviceman, Dethel Lee McMullen, had his supply of cigars replenished when two officers of the Independent Order of Oddfellows visited him yes-" terday afternoon. Mr G. Burrow, district grand master of the 1.0.0. F., ai d Mr H. Tuliett, a grand lodge representative; brought Mr McMullen flowers and a box of cigars, and chatted to him in Christchurch Hospital.
“We just wanted to show him that New Zealanders are thinking about him,” said Mr Tuliett.
“We will be visiting him, with a gift from our order, at least once a week while he is here.” he said. “We will see if he wants anything or if we can assist him in any way.”
Mr McMullen will probably be flown back to the United States about July 20. The visit were part of an effort p’anned by the Canterbury 1.0.0. F. to help people in need, said Mr Tuliett. This was in response to an appeal for charitable work made by the New Zealand grand master, Mr T. Beatty, at the grand lodge session at Hastings in Ma;. The 1.0.0. F. also" had a special interest in Mr McMullen because- he was an American —the order was originally founded in the United States.
