Keas Attack Line

(NiZ. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, June 23. Keas about Deep Cove are causing the Invercargill Post Office some concern. The district engineer, Mr B. B. Hands, confirmed that birds had been attacking the 14mile link between Deep Cove and West Arm, and causing frequent interruptions. “It is quite evident that keas, or some other such birds, have been chewing the cable and we are getting worried how to cope With it,” said Mr Hands. The worstaffected part of the link was about half a mile from West Arm. Damage there, said Mr Hands, had been quite severe. Two post office technicians were flown in to the area today to repair the damage. The telephone link has been out since Saturday.
