Farmers Urged To Send Sons To Outward Bound

More information bn boys from farms attending the Outward Bound school will be obtained by the North Canterbury provincial executive of Federated Farmers. The matter was raised at the executive’s meeting by Mr S. A. Uren, who said there were not. enough farmers’ sons attending the course. .

The president (Mr R. E. Hiatt) thought more opportunity should be given' to married couples* sons, who. were not as “privileged as farmers’ sons.” The executive also decided to discuss with the Mid-Can-terbury district the possibility of obtaining granulated superphosphate for aerial topdressing. Mid-Canterbury sought the executive’s views on this matter.

Mr A. Mulholland said that it would cost the: local fertiliser company about £BO,OOO to install a plant for manufacturing granulated superphosphate. The company would want a guarantee that farmers would use sufficient quantities of it to make the manufacture economic.

For this type of fertiliser, farmers would probably have to pay tip to £4 a ton extra, he said. The following committees were elected:—

Finance and Building.— Messrs Hiatt, R. H. Bedford, J. F. N. Twose, A. C. Wright, S. E. Chappell, W. N. Dunlop, D. W. Gray, and J. U. McCracken.

Organising.—Messrs W. R. Archbold, W. A. Johnston, S. A. Uren, P. J. Abbott, T. H, Frazer, and R. H. Bedford.

Transport Users.—Messrs Twose, Dunlop, Wright, G. E. Rennie, J. F. G. Blakely, P. N. Ussher, and L. E. Taylor. Land. —Messrs Dunlop, Chappell, and Gray. Representatives appointed to other bodies were:—.

Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, Mr J. W. Overton; Chamber of Commerce, Mr D. H. Butcher; Safety Association, Mr P. G. Morrison: Broadcasting, Mr A. E. G. Lyttle; Canterbury Progress League, Mr D. W. Gray; Young Farmers’ Clubs, Mr F. H. Eggleston.
