Plaque For Record Run
P. G. Snell’s epic run to establish world records for 880yds and 800 metres at Lancaster Park in February, 1962, is to receive permanent recognition through the presentation of a commemorative plaque to the Victory Park Board by the Christchurch Lions Club.
The bronze plaque is to be erected in a prominent position at Lancaster Park and will be unveiled by Snell on his next visit to Christchurch towards the end of next month.
A spokesman for the Lions Club said yesterday that the plaque would first be placed on a temporary site near the main entrance to the park.. Later it would be put in a permanent position, probably in the No. 3 stand, near the Wilsons road entrance.
Keen To Keep Record.— Warren Rogers, the 17-year-old Kaitaia College boy, who set a world table-tennis endurance record of 48 hours this week, said yesterday that Ihe would consider making another attempt if his present I record was broken.—(P.A.)
