SEED TEST TRAINING

Workshop Mav Be Set Up "

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 19. The Government is exploring the possibility of sponsoring a workshop at Palmerston North in November to train representatives from the developing countries in South-east Asia in the techniques of seed testing and the distribution of certified strains. This was announced tonight by the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake). He said the distribution of good seeds was one of the most efficient and at the same time one of the cheapest ways of raising productivity of farms and increasing the food supply. It was, moreover, a field in which New Zealand had both the experience and the facilities to _ provide a valuable training programme, Mr Holyoake said. He said he had asked the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) to arrange for his department to co-operate with the Department of External Affairs in making inquiries as to the attitude of the governments concerned in Southeast Asia and in issuing invitations if the response were favourable.
