Military Service Postponements
Five youths employed in key positions in small businesses were granted postponement of military training by the Military Service Postponement Committee yesterday. The committee comprised Messrs W. K. L. Dougall (chairman), C. R. Thomas, and H. R. Larsen. Mr E. O. Edwards represented the Crown. The youths were: I. D. Arnott (postponed to January, 1965, with a recommendation that training be done in two seven-week periods), S. W. Cheyne (postponed for one year), C. J. Cooke (postponed to January, 1965), G. A, Hide (postponed sine die as long as he remains in his present employment), and R. S. Inwood (postponed sine die as long as he remains in his present employment). Other youths who were also granted postponements sine die were:— Married men with family: R. Ashworth, M. C. Bishop, R. P. Boyle, K. W. Downing, N. G. Duggan, J. M. Duffy, N. J. Greenaway, J. W. Hart, L. A. Hobbs, M. R. Jarden, T. Kendal. W. S Kerr, K. C. McKay, T. T. Melhopt, A. R. Nixon, P. C. Shepperd. W. J. F. Smith, M. C. Straight, S. C. Turvey, L. P. Walsh, D. R. Yaxley. Merchant seamen: L. R. Anderson, P. A, Crannitch, J. A. Gilmore, G. F. Pasfield, J. O. Scorringe, B. J. Steele. Students: J. M. Collins, J. K. McAlpine, B. V. O’Connell. Policeman; R. J. Kelso.
Hillary School.— The new Papakura East Primary School is to be named the Edmund Hillary School, it was reported to the Auckland Education Board on Wednesday. Sir Edmund Hilliary’s permission has been obtained and he will officially open the school.—(P.A.) ,
