TV 'WATCHDOG' WANTED
Call By Viewers* Association The Government should urgently appoint a “watchdog” committee for the television industry, said the president of the Canterbury Televiewers’ Association (Mr J. Abbett). Mr Abbott said that members of his organisation were getting restless that nothing had so far been done. It was common practice overseas to have representative* of viewers appointed by governments, he said. In Britain a 27-member “watchdog’’ committee was appointed to advise on violence and unpleasant and suggestive themes, quality and planning, and to have control over advertising Mr Abbott said lus members hoped a responsible committee, satisfactory to his organisation and other interested bodies, would be farmed while good will existed locally in relations between the association and Government departments.
