Hoad Loses To Laver

(N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, March 12. In a dazzling display of p wer tennis, R. Laver beat L. A. Hoad, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5, today at Timaru where the Australian professional troupe opened the South Island section of their New Zealand tour. Time and again Laver’s return of service was hit for a clear winner. By comparison the first singles match between K. R. Rosewall and M. A. Anderson was - tame affair. Anderson served powerfully to win, 6-3, 6-4. In the doubles, Laver and Anderson were no match for Hoad and Rosewall, who won, 6-2, 6-3. The troupe play at Wilding Park on Sunday.
