Freak Storm And Hail
(N.Z Press Association) BLENHEIM, Feb. 17. A freak electrical storm, during which between 2.80 in and 3.16 in of rain and quantities of marble-sized hail fell in the space of 30 minutes, caused havoc among crops and gardens on farm properties on a narrow strip in the Waihopai Valley, near Blenheim, late on Saturday afternoon.
The downpour was so severe that paint was chipped from a shed roof.
