PENSIONERS’ FLATS

Riccarton To Raise Loan

A soecial meeting of the Riccarton Borough Council agreed unanimously last evening to raise an £ll.OOO loan for pensioners’ cottages. The motion to raise the loan was moved by Cr. F. W. Gilbert, chairman of the finance and by-laws committee.

The striking of a special rate of ,043 d in the £ on the unimproved value of the borough to secure repayment of the loan was also approved. The Mayor (Mr E. J. Bradshaw) said it was not expected that this rate would be levied. The cottages were expected to pay for themselves.

The council decided at its ordinary meeting to accept the tender of Edgar Watts. Ltd., of £12,980 for the construction of the flats. This was the lowest tender.
