CONCERN AT LIGHTING

Blenheim Road Change Sought

Concern at the “lack of adequate lighting” along Blenheim road was expressed by the Riccarton Borough Council at a meeting last evening.

On the motion of the Deputy-Mayor (Cr. F. R. Gilbert) the council agreed to write to the district Commissioner of Works expressing its concern and asking when the lighting was likely to be improved arid for reconsideration to be given to the installation of colourcorrected mercury lamps. There was not much time to install them, before winter', said Cr. Gilbert. He was concerned that, any delay would mean another year before anything was .done. The council agreed to Cr. R. W. J. Harrington’s recommendation. to install 12 sheet metal wastepaper bins in the borough. Authorisation was given to the Town Clerk (Mr R. Sergeant) to look, into the question of the engagement of a town planning consultant and report back to the council.
