The stocky Texan, Jacky Cupit, scored five successive threes in a third round of M to capture the lead in the 30,000doilar Tucson open golf tournament on Saturday. His slx-under-par round gave him 203 for 54 holes, Associated Press reported. Cupit dropped a birdie putt of 13ft at the fourteenth hole, an eagle three from 15ft on the fifteenth, a 10-footer at the sixteenth, a three-footer at the seventeenth, and had a par three. The 25-year-old Cupit waa three strokes in front of Tommy Aaron, who fired a 87. Four players were on 207—Bruce Devlin, of Australia, George Archer, Chuck Courtney, and Rex Baxter.

Al Johnston, of Canada, broke the course record by one stroke with a 64, let finished no better than 210.
