Multi-Course Schools
Sir, —Your reports on the English 11-plus examination and the technical education plan give food for thought. While we value our traditional academic schools, we cannot ignore the growing importance of the modern multi-course school. The school which gives an equal chance to each pupil, where scholar and craftsman can wear with pride the same uniform, and honour the same traditions can be a powerful force for good in the community. This type of school can do something to correct the present imbalance between professional and technical staff in industry by teaching a mutual repect at the post-primary level. The tragedy of the English system is all too apparent, and it weakness may have a bearing on the teen-age problems that exist in that country.— Yours, etc., INTERESTED READER. January 13, 1964.
