New Names For Servants
(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, Nov. 20. In a new £300,000 hotel in London, pageboys and porters are called inquiry clerks, chambermaids are called floor stewardesses and bartenders are bar stewards. “The days are over when staff were treated as slaves,” said the hotel manager, “We don’t even refer to our staff as servants and they work a 42-hour week.”
