CHINA WINS SIX GOLD
First Day Of Games (N.ZP.A.-Reut er—Copyright) DJAKARTA, Nov. 12. China emerged as the most powerful competitor, and a likely overall winner, on the first day of the Games of the New Emerging Forces (Gafeno) in Djakarta yesterday. China won six gold medals, seven silver medals and one bronze. North Korea was second with three gold medals, four silver and two bronze. Indonesia was third with two gold, no silver and four bronze.
Two bantam weight-lifters from China and North Korea broke world records.
Li Chi Yuang, of China, snatched 108 kilogrammes to beat by half a kilogramme the record of Y. Miyake (Japan). Soon afterwards Li Heung Chun, of North Korea, jerked 141 kilogrammes at his third attempt. It beat the best previous of 140.5 kilogrammes by Chen Ching Kai (China).
