MINISTRIES OF DEFENCE
Naval Head’s Support (N2. Prtst Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 22. The flag officer command-ing-in-chief of the British Far East Fleet, ViceAdmiral Sir Desmond Deyer, is a staunch supporter of the idea of a Ministry of Defence.
Both Britain and New Zeeland are in the process of setting up such ministries, and art a conference today the Admiral was asked for his comments on the British Ministry of Defence. “This will lead to much greater efficiency through more co-ordination," he said. “It will ensure that the heads of the three’ services sit in the same building, meeting with each other, talking with each other, and representing direct to the Minister of Defence what their views are. “And at the lower levels officers in the same building will have much greater opportunity to work together. “The Ministry'will help to decide how the money is to be spent and how much will go to each service. “The services must not work separately. They must work together. Anything that helps towards that will benefit.”
The Admiral said he had come to New Zealand to consult with the Navy authorities “because we work so closely with the New Zeeland Navy."
