The money allocated by the district is concentrated on Items which included the southern approaches to the new Waimakariri bridge and through to Tram road, and the bridge end from Belfast to Cranford street. A* mentioned in the halfyearly review, a start on the first stage two-lane Waimakariri bridge will be delayed till next year. £50.000 is allocated in 1964-65 and again in 1965-66. The item of £300,000 for the section from Belfast to Cranford street (3.7 miles) is the upgrading of State Highway 1 to cope with traffic demands until the motorway link south from Chaneys corner is constructed st a later stage to the programme. Urban construction planned in Christchurch amounts to £330.000 to the period. Major expenditure Is concentrated on the Moorhouse avenue-lancoln road section (£309,000). Thia include* £63,000 tor the overpass at Colombo street. The replacement of the Fitzgerald avenue bridge and new work on the approaches totalling £66,000 will be completed tn the period. Extension of seal on State Highway* 73 and 73 la continued. th* bulk of the money concentrated on the section of State Highway 73 between Porter* Paa* and CastlehiU. £43.000 over seven miles. Reconstruction work* ar* all minor and th* only strengthening work is on the HatewellTai Tapu section of the Akaroa highway (£30.000). No major bridges ar* included la the trine renewals planned.
