Sealing Plans Offset Savings
Although the District Roads Council foresees a reduction in general maintenance from the present £91,000 to £85,000 next year, an Increase in reseals of £lO,OOO per year offsets the gains in No. 13 district (North Canterbury). The completion of seal to the district boundary on State Highway 7 will be completed in 190866 and leave* State Highway 70 to be completed. £lO.OOO is provided on this highway over a period for a moderate programme. The reconstruction programme is a fairly small one—£lso.ooo in the period, although there ar* heavy commitments shown beyond the three years, near Conway on State Highway 1 and on the Waikari-Hunmui section of State Highway 7. The £86.000 work on State Highway
I north and south of the Omilii Saddle will be completed in the period. In" the period, 18 bridge* are planned. Three major bridges Included are the 1100 ft Hurunul bridge (£154 000) recently opened, the 500 ft Kahutura bridge (£100.000) and the 1870 ft Waiau bridge on State Highway 70 (£135 000).
Sea coast protection of State Highwav 1 is a continuing item and £25.000 is allowed for the period.
