SEARCH IN COOK Is.

Seven Missing In Boat (N.Z Prtss Association) RAROTONGA, August 16 A 17-foot sailing boat with seven persons aboard is missing near the island of Manihiki in the northern Cook group. The boat is one of four which set out yesterday morning on the 28-mile open sea trip from the neighbouring island of Rakahanga. The other three boats arrived safely at Manihiki yesterday afternoon. Those aboard the last boat to arrive said that the fourth boat had been about five miles behind, but had been lost sight of. In spite of rough seas, the resident agent set out this morning in the Government sailing boat to make a limited search. He returned late this afternoon, having seen nothing of the missing boat. The Air Sea Rescue Organisation in Fiji was alerted this morning and a R.N.Z.A.F. Sunderland flying-boat has left Fiji for Western Samoa and will fly on to Manihiki tomorrow and search the area. If necessary, the aircraft will stay at Manihiki overnight and continue the search the next day.
