POSTERS ON LAMB

U.S. Material For Gty Shops

Colourful posters portraying cooked lamb may soon be used to brighten butchers’ shops in Christchurch. The posters, produced by the American Lamb Council, are to be made available to butchers through the Canterbury Meat Retailers' Association. Some 300 of the posters, which measure 18 inches by 24 inches, have been brought into New Zealand by a Christchurch butcher, Mr S. J. Stevens. Mir Stevens first became interested in the posters when he saw material brought back from America by a Mid-Can-terbury farmer, Mr H. R. Scott, of Lagmbor. During a visit to Denver, which is the headquarters of the Lamb Council, early this year-, Mr Stevens was able to arrange for the dispatch of these posters to Christchurch. Mr Stevens said he regarded this as a sign of goodwill between the industries in the two countries. One of the posters shows a leg of lamb with a honey mustard glaze. Another is of lamb rib chops. This was a particularly welcome subject, said Mr Stevens, for while butchers were conscious that rib chops or cutlets were the best-tasting part of the carcase, popular demand was generally for the more meaty loin and leg chops, so that the poster might help to restore the balance. A third poster shows Scotch “choplets”, or Scotch roast. These are versions of boned and rolled breast or flap of lamb stuffed with seasoned minced lamb. Council’s Service Mr Stevens said that the American Lamb Council offered some 30 different fullcolour posters to super markets and meat retailers in the United States. It also had some eight different lamb recipe folders, special booklets and manuals for the retailer and catering trade, and in addition had special material for hotels and restaurants which could be used on the tables. “This extensive service compares most favourably with anything that the Meat Board offers in Britain or elsewhere,” said Mr Stevens.
