Lawn Tennis CROOKENDEN IN FINAL

To Meet R. Tavlor w (N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) NEWPORT (Rhode Island), August 17 I. S. Crookenden. of New Zealand. and R. Taylor (Britain), both left-handers, upset the top American and foreign seeds today to reach the final of the Newport Casino tennis tournament. Crookenden. the third foreign seed. beat the top-ranked English player. R. K. Wilson. 7-5. 6-4, 6-3. Wilson was the top-seeded foreign player. Wilson broke Crookenden's service in the third game of their first set but Crookenden turned the tables in the seventh and eleventh games. Crookenden held service except for that first set game. Crookenden reached the semi-finals with a 3-6, 6-3. 6-4 quarter-final win over L. Wood, of South Africa. Taylor beat F. Froehling, of Florida, America’s second player. 1-8. 6-0. 4-6, 8-3. 14-12. Froehling was top-seeded among Americans. Taylor was rated number two in the foreign listings. In the doubles semi-finals today, Crookenden and J. H McDonald, also from New Zealand. were eliminated by R Barnes (Brazil) and A. Donnadleu (Mexico), 6-4, 6-4.
