Americans Win Doubles (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LOS ANGELES. August 17. The United States doubles team of C. McKinley and D Ralston played Inspired tennis today to win an upset victory over R. Osuna and A. Palafox, of Mexico, and take a 2-1 lead in the American zone Davis Cup semi-finals. Playing superbly, the Americans overwhelmed the Mexican pair. 6-1, 6-3. 8-6. The United States, which lost. 2- to Mexico in last year's Davis Cup play, now needs only one victory in tomorrow's two singles to qualify to meet Venezuela in the American zone final. The American zone winner will then meet Britain, the European zone champion. In tomorrow's first singles Ralston will play Osuna. Osuna won the opening singles beating McKinley. 6-2. 3- 6-2, 2-6. 6-3. Ln the second singles Ralston beat Palafox. 6-1. 6-4, 3-6. 6-3 The 2!-year-old Ralston was the dominant figure in the doubles today. Serving powerfully and making few mistakes, ne kept the pressure on the dazed Mexicans with his killing overhead and his sharp, wellplaced volleys.
