CRICKET Cowdrey Named As Captain In India

LONDON. August 18 The M.C.C. yesterday decided to appoint M. C. Cowdrey as captain of the England side to play in India, the "Dally Mail" said yesterday. The appointment, the paper said, had considerable significance since with E. R. Dexter standing by to fight a marginal seat in the British General Election Cowdrey might captain England against Australia In next summer's series. The appointment still has to be approved by the full M.C.C. committee. Close of Play Close of play scores in Saturday s cricket matches were: At Cheltenham: Sussex 196 (A. Oakman 77; C. Cook tour
