DAIRY HERD SOLD

£47 15s Average An average price of £47 15s was paid for 66 cows and heifers when a complete dairy herd was offered for sale by oublic auction at the Little River saleyards last week The herd belonged to Mr J Vogan. of Duvauchelle Bay. whose grandfather successfully exhibited cheese in Christchurch in 1882. The offering included 55 Friesian, Friesian Jersey cross and odd Jersey cows The bulk of these cows sold between £5O and £5B, with odd sales up to £64 for a third calving Friesian. A handful made between £3l and £3B. Five three-year-old heifers brought from £45 to £53 and six two-year-old heifers all realised £45. The cattle were purchased for points all over Canterbury and also for the West Coast, and buyers were present from Nelson. The sale was conducted by the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Ltd.
