Shunters Work 50-Hour Week
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 16. A Wellington shunter worked an average of 9.39 hours a day and 50 hours in a fiveday week, the Minister of Railways (Mr McAlpine) said in the House of Representatives today. Replying to a question by Mr J. G. Edwards < Opposition, Napier), Mr McAlpine said a lower average was desirable but there were not sufficient men.
