SEARCH FOR DEFAULTERS

Dept. Seeking 1500 Youths (Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, August 16. The Minister of Labour (Mr Shand), told Parliament today that he believed a change in the method of registration might help relieve confusion over the registration of youths tor military training. In discussion of the Labour Department estimates, Mr Shand said tie could not remember any cost of chasing up military defaulters. "The work is done by departmental officers in the course of their duties. “The matter of an amendment to the act to remove confusion is still under consideration,” he said. Mr Shand said well over 1500 youths who should have registered last year had still not done so. The department, so far, had not done as well in catching them as it had done the previous year.

He was confident, however, that most of them would be found.
