Libel Suit To Be Defended

The Montreal newspaper "Midnight," said today V would contest a 250 003-dollar libel suit filed against it by Douglas Fairbanks jun. and would seek to have the actor brought to Montreal under subpoena. United Press Internationa) reported “The newspaper's lawyers are taking legal steps to subpoena the veteran actcr to Montreal, to undergo a preliminary court examination." a spokesman said Counsel for Fairbanks filed the libel action in the Montreal Superior Court yesterday, on the basis of an article in the July 29 issue of the tabloid publication which purported to be an interview with Fairbanks by Donald Ole The article was entitled “My Week-end With Christine," and accompanying it wen. pictures of Mr Fairbanks and Miss Keeler, the latter being described as “a person of notoriety." Mr Fairbanks' suit charged that the article was "false libellous and fictitious" and that it "causes the plaintiff damage to his honour and reputation .” Counsel for the actor said Mr Fairbanks did not know any person named Donald Cole, “if indeed, any such person exists."
