Registration Suggested
(Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Aug. 1. Moves to have all powerboats, irreapecteve of size. negMteFed were advocated by Mr M. A. Comnelly (Opposition, Rtooarton) in Parliament tonight. “We should be concerned with every boat putting out to sea or in open water, as we’ve bed appalling kw of Vie." he said.
Referring to the recent boating tragedy on Lake Ellesmere, he said the boat was one that had been patched up. It had only four inches erf freeboard.
“An experienced fisherman seed the boat would get a mile and a half, and that was about as far as it got when it foundered,’* said Mr Oonrreliy. A man could build a boat and a trailer, and was obliged to regiister the trailer for his benefit and that of independent people. Yet the boat did not need to be registered or surveyed. “It should be, both for his protection and that of a third party.”
