Dexter Enters Politics
(N.Z.PJI.-Reuter— Copyright) CARDIFF (Wales). July 31. The English cricket captain, Mr Ted Dexter, aged 28, tonight entered politics. He was unanimously chosen as the prospective Conservative candidate for Cardiff SouthEast at the next general election. He will contest the seat held by Labour’s financial spokesman, Mr James Callaghan, whose majority at the 1959 General Election was 888. Tonight Mir Dexter said: “I hope to combine politics and cricket as much as I can. Obviously cricket is a great part of my life. But if it comes down to it I see this as my main task here in Cardiff." Asked if he had any qualms about meeting a man such as Mr Callaghan, he said: “I have met quite a few big men in my life. In fact I am looking forward to meeting him and beating him,”
