50-Mile March By Soldiers

A 50-mile march between Arthur’s Pass and Springfield was completed in 16 hours on Tuesday by 12 members of the 2nd Battalion, New Zealand Regiment. The march ended at 10 p.m. Over rough terrain, snow and ice, each soldier carried 401 b of gear. The men were led by Major R. S Strait and the party included the battalion’s new chaplain (Padre H. I. Shaw) and a medical orderly, Private W Williams. All the men are from Bumham Military Camp.
