Clarke Not Retiring

(N.Z. Press Association) WANGANUI. July 22. Footballers generally retire too early, the AU Black fullback, D. Clarke, said in Wanganui today. “In many cases, of course, players have commitments that do not allow them to continue playing and in those cases it would be unwise for them to do so,” Clarke said. “But there are a lot of players who give the game up when they are 28 and reaching their peak. “I have) no plans for retirement and I have my wife’s blessing to make that statement,” he said. View On Training

Clarke, who was accompanied py Mr A. Lydiard, said 90 per cent of Rugby players could improve their play if they had a better approach to training. The two men said that training should be carried out through the week and that players should have five to 10-minute warm-ups before the match.

Training should start early, before the season, but should be along the correct lines. They did not approve of cold showers after a match and considered massage Mier a match “old fashioned.”
