RUGBY Selector For Maoris Absent
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 22. The New Zealand Maori Rugby team now touring the South Island was chosen at Whangarei last week in the absence of Mr N. J, McPhail, chairman of the All Black selection panel.
“It is unfortunate for one in his position to have been left out,” said the chairman. Mr T. C. Morrison, at today's meeting of the N.Z.R.F.U. executive.
The Maori selectors themselves had requested a fewyears ago that the chairman of the AJI Black committee be added to their panel, he said. Mr McPhail travelled from
Chnstchuroh to Whangarei for the trial match last Thursday to attend the selecting of the team. Arrangements were made after the game for the Maori selectors and Mr McPhail to meet, said the Maori Advisory Board chairman, Mr J. D. King, today. Mr McPhail had arrived at the appointed place after tha trial but the Maori selectors had gone elsewhere. “When they came back about an hour later they handed me the team to announce.” said Mr King.
