Surgery For Macewan
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. July 22. The Wellington Rugby captain and former All Black forward,! I. N. Macewan will be out of Rugby for at least six weeks because of a knee Which ‘‘locked’’ in the Wel-lington-New Zealand Universities match on Saturday. He will enter Wellington Hospital on Wednesday for an operation the following day. Today Macewan said he felt fit enough to play, but there could be no guarantee his knee would not fold up again. “I might play for the rest of the season, play, in the trials for the United Kingdom tour and even be selected,” he said. “But I know that if that happened I would be turned down as unfit for the tour. “The only alternative I have is to go into hospital for the operation. It’s the only chance I have of making that tour.”
Macewan’s first target after he recuperates is to play for Wellington in the Ranfurly Shield challenge against Auckland on August'3l. “Everything at the moment is a mess of ifs and buts.” he said. “I have no guarantee I will be fit to play in the trials in eight weeks.”
