Selection For University
Sir,—l agree entirely with Mr Shouksmith, and would even suggest that it is not only the “accrediting” section of the education system that is sadly lacking, but virtually the entire system. What sort of an education system is one that groups the intelligent with the stupid, and so retards the intelligent, which will allow intelligent pupils to leave school at an early age, yet perseveres with the stupid; which will allow brilliant students to be de-
prived of a university education because of financial problems, and so on? We must be prepared to follow a radically new education system, based on intelligence, and represented by the equation: I.Q. + Effort = Merit We must give the intelligent every opportunity, even to the extent of segregating our schools, and we must induce intelligent students to become teachers. The teachers of today make the leaders of tomorrow.—Yours, etc. T. J. VEITCH. July 5, 1963.
