O. C. Chandler almost put paid to G. V. Sumner's hope* of becoming Canterbury Chess Club champion this year when he beat Sumner but tost to R D. Clarke. Clarke, haM a point behind Sumner, was the only other player stall in the running for the champcnnsljin. and now looks likely to win it.

Clarke now leads Sumner by half a point, with each having one adjourned game to finish to complete the series. They are adjourned ag&inet the same player—J. A Hunter.
