Indoor Bowls Husband-And-Wife Competition
G Bull and Mrs Bull (New Brighton R.S.A.) narrowly won the final of the Canterbury' Indoor Bowls Association’s hus-band-and-wife pairs tournament. They beat the runners-up, J. Anderson and Mrs Anderson (St. Martins), 11-9. There were 210 pairs entered in the tournament. Seventythree qualified for post section play at 4.30 p.m. The quarter-finalists were: Mr and Mrs J. Anderson (St. Martins), Mr and Mrs R. McIntyre (Linwood), Mr and Mrs A. Jory (N.A.C.). Mr and Mrs R. L. Beaton (SpreydonAddington R.S.A.), Mr and Mrs E. G. F. Smith (U.F.S.), Mr and Mrs L. Atkinson (Riccarton), Mr and Mrs G. Bull (New Brighton R.S.A.), Mr and Mrs A. Whitty (Burwood). Mr and Mrs Anderson had no trouble in beating Mr and Mrs Mclntyre, 10-2. Mr and Mrs A. Jory played steady bowls to put Mr and Mrs Beaton out. 7-4. Mr and Mrs Smith beat Mr and Mrs Atkinson in a fairly close game, 9-5. and Mr and Mrs Bull beat Mr and Mrs Whitty. 12-6. The semi-final between Mr and Mrs Anderson and Mr and Mrs Smith was a real tussle. Mr and Mrs Anderson won by 8 points to 5. The other semi-final between Mr and Mrs A. Jory and Mr and Mrs Bull was also very good. Mrs Bull, who was skipping. played good bowls to win. 8-6. The final between Mr and Mrs Anderson and Mr and Mrs Bull produced some very exciting bowling. Mr and Mrs Bull looked as if they would have a runaway victory as they were 1012 up at the eighth, but Mr and Mrs Anderson fought back and on the eleventh end were just behind at 10-9. However, the last end went to Mr and Mrs Bull, 11-9.
