Scottish Widow Reaches Dying Son In Time

TRARALGON (Victoria), June 2. A Glasgow widow, Mrs Mary Shore, aged 63, yesterday won a dramatic race against time and distance to see her son, dying of cancer in Traralgon Hospital, 100 miles east of Melbourne.

Trembling with weariness and excitement, Mr® Shore

was ushered to the bedside of her 41-year-old son, William—six weeks after the death of her husband, also a cancer victim. William Shore, although weak after suffering a relapse. threw his arms around his mother and said softly. "Oh mum. mum.”

Mrs Shore comforted him with: “lit will be all right now, son.’’ Hospital officials told Mrs Shore she could stay at the hospital as long as she wished. Within minutes of her arrival at Melbourne airport from Scotland yesterday, Mrs Shore was transferred to a

light plane for the last leg of her jounney to Traralgon Last week when Australian imimigration authorities heard of the new tragedy facing the 63-year-old widow they arranged for heir to emigrate to Australia immediately. The formalities were completed in a single day, and Mrs Shore w r as flying to Australia within 39 hours. Mins Shore said she only learned of her son’s illness two weeks ago. “The rest of my family knew, but didn’t tell me because of my husband’s death only the week before.”
