OTAKI WIN

Sampler By Head (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. May 12. Sampler, the each-way favourite led for the last nine furlongs to win the Ta Timi Kara Handicap at the Otaki Maori Racing Club's winter meeting on Saturday. At the finish she had a head to spare from the outsider, Kilroy, which spoiled a winning chance when he hung in near home and his rider had twice to straighten him. Funny Story was a close third. The first three were four lengths clear of the pack, headed by Fierce. Except for a heavy shower before the seventh race the weather was sunny and mild. The track was firm and dusty, which was responsible for many scratchings, especially in the two jumping races. Results: — OHAU HACK HURDLES, £350; 13f.—2/2 FLOCKHART (6) rehcp. 8-6 V. R.
