EIGHT TANKS FROM HONG KONG

AUCKLAND, May 6. Eight 50-ton Centurion tanks bought by the New Zealand A liny will pose some problems for Army engineers in Auckland this week. The tanks will arrive from Hong Kong on Wednesday in the freighter Kweichow. They will be unloaded under the supervision of Captain W. J. Wooldridge and Sergeant J. F. Walles, of the electrical and mechanical engineers. Sergeant WaUes was a member of the inspection team which selected the tanks from surplus British Army holdings in Hong Kong After being unloaded by floating crane from the freighter, the tanks will be
moved singly on a giant transporter to Sylvia Park. At the park the engineers have had to construct a special loading ramp. The. tanks will be garaged there until moved to Waiouru. Expert handling will be required to get them inside the lift 9in doors. The machines are lift in width. The tanks will iater be taken to Waiouru for use by the Queen Alexandras Squadron, the regular force armoured unit, and to train regular. territoraad and national service soldier*.
AU the tanks had been reoonaitioned before being bought. They are each armed with a stabilised 20-pounder gun and a .30 calibre machine-gun.
