PICAROON SUCCEEDS
Favourites In Double
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 15. Picaroon met a mixed reception when he won his second successive Easter Handicap on the second day of the Wadrarapa Racing Club’s meeting at Tauherenikau today, but the bigger part of the demonstration was applause. On Saturday, Picaroon was forced into the unaccustomed role of pacemaker, and could do no better than fifth. Fine Time trailed the leaders to the turn in the second leg, the Tauherenikau Handicap found an opening at the right time, and, under a hard ride, beat Gymkhana by half a neck. Picaroon and Fine Time paid a double dividend of £lO 16s for £t. The weather was overcast and the track was fast. There was an attendance of 5045.
