Zinder Fit For Riccarton Race

Fifty seconds, or thereabouts, for half a mile at Riccarton yesterday represented , good galloping. But Zinder managed te record 50 for the last half-mile of a ran over a Nt of ground. This three-year-old was certainly impressive in his trial for the Peninsula Handicap at Riccarton on Saturday. Zinder galloped on the trial grass with M. J. Wildermoth up. He ran nine furlongs in 20 4-5, the last mile in 1:47 3-5. Wildermoth will ride Zinder on Saturday when Targui will make his open class debut. Picright will probably be one of Zinder*s strongest rivals in the first leg of the double on Saturday. Yesterday he ran a mile keenly with Gaytana (Mein) and Paua (N. Eastwood) in 1:44 1-5, the test three furlongs in 38. Picright was ridden by his race rider, D. N. Hadfield, who has a full list of engagements at the Banks Peninsula meetbinge r Mac (Taggart)and Zero (C. T. Wilson) sprinted six furlongs in 1:18 2-3, the test half in 52 1-3. Zero, a winner at Ashbubrton two starts back, is in the high-weight at the Banks Peninsula meeting. Race Guide (M. Skelton) sped In from the half-mile in 50. and did the job well. He races well fresh and may surprise in the Ahuriri Hack Handicap at Riccarton.

TRIAL FOR TRENTHAM Most of the galloping was done on the plough, and one of the best on this track was the Thompson Handicap candidate, Vltamise. With his race rider, N. Eastwood, up, Vltamise sprinted seven furlongs in 1:30 1-3, the last four in 52 and the final three In 38 3-5. He will be taken north tomorrow.

Yosemite (A. H. Eastwood) and Royal Pic (C. T. Wilson) recorded 140 3-5 for seven furlongs. and 51 3-5 for the last four. It was a good gallop for hacks. Mhor and Marlborough worked up to a strong pace in their seven-furlong trial. They took 1:32 4-5 for the distance, but reeled off the last half-mile in 50, and the final three furlongs in 36 2-5. These hacks will meet In the Parkinson Handicap at the Banks Peninsula meeting. Keep (Mein) and Peterstan (Gould) were abreast finishing seven furlongs in 1:29 4-5, the last four in 51 1-5. It was a smart gallop, and an improved run. by Peterstan. Keep may be the hardest to beat m the Waihora Stakes at the Banks Peninsula meeting. Other gallops:— Seven Furlongs.—Golden Vanity (A. Eastwood) and Balance (N. Eastwood), 1:31, last lour. 51 2-5: Sailorman (Finlayson) and Payout (M. Skelton), 1:35 1-5, last four, 33 1-5; Studio (Reggett), 1:35, last five with Derailment (C. McDonald) in 1:7 2-5, last four. 53 2-5. Six Furlongs.—Argus (Wildermoth). three-quarters of a length to Helen’s Bay (Donovan), 1:17 1-5, last four, 50 2-5. Five Furlongs— Last Mate (Hadfield), half length to Riboflavin (Finlayson), 1:3, last halfmile, 50: Hopeful (Cowles), 1:8 3-5, after jumping pony hU Half S Mile.—Vault (C. T. Wilson), 50 2-5: Lido (Beck), 52 1-5; McCool (T. Wilson), 53 2-5 the reverse way.
