WINNERS IN FIELD
Set-Weight Race For Maidens
Bandarshar was weighted at 51b above toe minimum for the Ahuriri Hack Handicap at toe Banks Peninsula meeting on Saturday, but his connexions have found something more attractive for toe horse.
Bandarshar won two races on toe West Coast recently, but he is eligible to run in the Wairewa Stakes, a setweight race for maidens at the time of nomination.
Bandarshar will carry 8-7, the same weight as 11 nonwinners in the field. Fillies and mares have 8-2 and receive 51b from the colts and geldings in the Wairewa St&itos One of the fillies In toe field, is Scuffle, which, like Bandarshar, has won since nominations dosed. Scuffle won on toe second day of the Dunedin autumn meeting last Saturday week, but under toe conditions of toe Wairewa Stakes she will receive 51b from 12 of her rivals.
A maiden race with provision for penalties for winners would have met toe situation better, said Mr R. W. Nurse, secretary of toe Banks Peninsula club, yesterday.
