Bowls SINGLES TO K. MURRAY
Second Title This Season
K. Murray (Opawa) won his second title this season when he beat H. P. Rennie (Fendalton) 16-14 in the final of the Christchurch Bowling Centre’s open singles tournament on the Fendalton green yesterday. Murray won hi* first title when he skipped the winning Christmas four. He still has a chance of taking another title for he will be competing tn the champion of champion pairs, having won his club’s title. The final was a game of gopd drawing with few fireworks. Midway through the game Murray played a delightful shot, to turn the head, which was against him, to his advantage. This shot was worth five shots to him. He was three down on the head and played a perfect trail, to take the kitty back for two shots.
The scoring was very even over the first six heads. On the. next head Murray doubled his score with a three and then went on to lead 9-3 on the ninth head. A three to Rennie on the next’ bridged the gap a little, but Murray managed to maintain the lead and on the thirteenth head led 13-7. He maintained his lead until the eighteenth, when the game was in his favour, 16-10. On the last three heads Rennie scored a two and two singles to go down by two. Murray’s trail really was the deciding factor in the game. Results were:— Ninth Round.—K. Murray (Opawa) 22, J. Dale (Burwood) 8; H. P. Rennie (Fendalton) 21, H. Teague (Shirley) 18; T. Wallace (United) a bye. Tenth Round.—Murray 24, Wallace 12; Rennie a bye. Final.—Murray 16, Rennie 14.
