FOUR HURT
Collision With Fire Engine (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 11. A fire engine and a station waggon collided at the Taranaki street-Manners street intersection at 8.28 o’clock tonight as, siren screaming, toe fire engine—an escape ladder machine—was answering what was later found to be a maUcious false alarm.
Four of five persons in toe station waggon were injured and taken to hospital. They are Mrs A. Mae* diarmid, Wadeetown (cuts and shock): Mr W. Neighbours, Thcrodon (cut head, concussion and shock); Mr R. White, Napier (suspected concussion); and Mrs D. Allen, Tborndon (cute and shock).
The driver of the station waggon, Mr W. W. Squires, of Wellington, was not injured. The six-man fire crew was also unbanned.
The tote model station waggon was tossed on Ms side and toe 7-ton 5-cwt fire engine was fairly extensively damaged in front Hundreds of late-night shoppers who flocked to toe accident saw both vehicles towed away.
Bnrglary.—A quantity of soft-drinks was stolen from toe Bagley GoM Club clubhouse in Hagley Park on Thursday night Entry was gained by breaking a window pane.
