AERODROME LAND

Joint Venture At Taieri (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Dec. 17. Crown land and buildings at Taieri aerodrome, Dunedin, not required for light aviation purposes had been offered to the Dunedin City Council for management on a joint-venture basis, the Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr McAlpine) said today. The vesting of the land and buildings would be negotiated subject to existing tenancies. The land, which became available when Dunedin's new airport at Momona was opened earlier this year, comprised more than 200 acres of Crown land and about 100 acres owned by the Dunedin City Council. It was likely that about 90 acres would be required for light aviation use but the balance, apart from that now occupied by the Agriculture Department, could be developed for commercial use with any profits being shared equally between the Government and the City Council. “Bearing in mind the area of land and the number of buildings at Taieri and the recent interest displayed in the area by industry, there is a potential revenue which will go some way towards assisting the council to meet its commitments at Momona,” Mr McAlpine Mid.
