Balloonists Return

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) HOLLMAN AIR FORCE BASE (New Mexico), December 16. Two Americans, Joe Kittinger and William White, landed safely near here today after spending 18 hours in a gondola attached to a 200 ft balloon, at a height of 81,500 ft. They took a series of photographs of the stars through a telescope—at that height they were clear of the earth’s distorting atmosphere—and measured air turbulence at various altitudes.
